A few weeks ago, I took a solo Sunday trip to the Art Institute for the final weekend of the MAGRITTE exhibit, “The Mystery of the Ordinary.” Since its opening in June, I had been itching to go & finally took a day to explore. I was not let down. The exhibition was simple in its layout – a perfect balance for the visually stunning & thought-provoking pieces.
Through his process, Magritte wanted to make the “familiar unfamiliar” & sought to “make everyday objects shriek aloud”; his work pushes viewers to think outside of the box & push beyond mental comfort zones.
As I took in each painting, I felt very emotional & energized. For a man that lived well before my time, I felt I could relate to his questioning of where a boundary begins & ends. Needless to say, I will be devoting more of my days off to artistic exploration. To learn more about Rene Magritte, go HERE.
Playful, fun & a little unexpected, here are three outfits inspired by some of my favorite Magritte masterpieces.
